Chapter 35 June AD 87 Texas- Big Risk Big Score

Waya and Samoset were inspecting their newest batch of buffalo and their riders.

Waya asked, “What do you think?”

“I think that if we keep adding buffalo and riders like this every year, we will conquer and control every farming village for thousands of miles. Our warriors are strong, the buffalo are obedient, and our enemies are powerless before us.”

Waya shook his head and said, “We are not the only people with ridable buffalo. The danger the trade alliance poses to us is immense.”

“Then let's go fight them. You told me that they were just farming villages anyway. If so, then they are stuck to the land. We can attack them at any time. What can they do about it? Can they leave their farms and chase us hundreds of miles away? Even if they find the farming villages we enslaved, so what? Our families still move from place to place, hunting the bison. We can attack anywhere we want, and they can do nothing.”

A smile grew on Waya’s face, “I am glad to hear you say that. When we raid the trade alliance, I need every warrior to have the courage to face other men on buffalo.”

Samoset spit on the ground and said, “So what if they have buffalo? We will attack them like a sparrow attacks a hawk. We are hunters; we will surround them, confuse them, and attack them again and again until they fall. We have mobility, and they have wealth. Once we use our mobility, we will have their wealth.”

Waya laughed and said, “I like your attitude. That said, we must be smart about how we attack. When we fight the bison that roam the plains, we scout it out and make sure we know the terrain. Then we drive the bison into isolation before slaying it. My last attack on the trade alliance ended in failure because I got overconfident and did not scout properly. I trusted my slave wives too much, and it cost me. This time before the attack, we will properly scout them out before we attack.”

Samoset smiled and said, “Don’t go alone. Take me with you.”

“Of course, my friend. Out of all the chiefs that joined me, you are the best.”

“Shhh, don’t let the other tribes hear you say that. There are already mutterings about how unfair our relationship is.”

“They are just jealous because they do not work as hard as you. If they put in as much effort as you and your tribe, then they would be in your position.”

“True, but it doesn’t make it any easier when my men squabble with men from two or three other tribes.”

“That’s the difficulties that come with success. Don’t worry about it just bask in the glow of being the best. Now grab your buffalo. We must go.”

As Samoset went to get his buffalo and take his first trip to the trade alliance, Waya smirked. He constantly pit the other tribes against each other. If
